CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

12:30 - 2:45 pm: Session 1: Lunch & Learn Panel (BYOL)

Bring a lunch and a notebook, and during the first session, we’ll break down dance class structure. We’ll include actionable strategies for class planning, concept generation, and curriculum development. We’ll then dive into the specifics of running classes, including strategies for organization, dance mechanics troubleshooting, and avoiding rabbit holes. This discussion will be for all levels, as we’ll cover basics and teaching 101 concepts, but also spend time focusing on intangibles and specific peculiarities we’ve run into over the years.

3:00 - 5:15 pm: Session 2: Teaching in Action
After a quick break, we’ll come back to stretch your teaching muscles! We’ll run through several exercises to practice class planning and execution. We’ll cover skills like language selection, movement demonstration, individual and group troubleshooting, and avoiding common pitfalls in the classroom. This exercise set will still be all-levels, and whether you’re brand new to teaching dance or have been doing it for a while, these exercises are designed to level up your teaching game!

5:15 - 5:45pm: Post-Workshop Community Meeting for HSDS Teachers
For anyone who teaches or would like to teach HSDS drop-in or progressive lessons. We'll use this time to share HSDS-specific expectations and syllabus (feedback welcome); discuss teacher scheduling; and gather information about teaching preferences.
