January:
6:40-7:40 pm, Beginner Swing: If you've never danced before then this is the class for you! We'll be covering a basic 6-count swing dance pattern. We'll then expand into turns and moves to help build up your vocabulary. The class will emphasize lead and follow connection/communication so that you can dance with anyone. No partner and previous dance experience is necessary. If you plan to attend, make sure to at least come to the first two lessons. Please wear comfortable clothes and flat soled shoes with little to no tread. You're sure to break a sweat.

~ Live Blues Band ~ The Corey Mac band will be coming from Nashville, TN to perform. They are nothing less than OUTSTANDING. The members are seasoned professionals who have played in Memphis, Nashville and all over the United States. I have a band bio for any that are interested. You WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! Come for the music or Come for the Cause. It's all good ~

Now that the school year is back in session, classes are moving to Tuesday and back to the University Fitness Center. This way we can do not just a beginner class, but an intermediate as well! Huy and Tabitha will be bringing new and beginner dancers in to the fold while also teaching new moves and advanced concepts. The beginner class starts at 6:30 and the intermediate at 7:30.

Every Monday during the summer HSDS teachers Tabitha and Huy will be teaching a 4 week long course on beginner Lindy Hop from 7-8pm at Union Grove Studio on UAH Campus for the UAH Dance Club. Lindy Hop is one of the original swing dances. This high energy dance coupled with Tabitha and Huy's bubbly personality is sure to be a fun start to the week. Each month they'll be covering Lindy Hop footwork/rhythm, connection, and lead/follow technique. They'll restart the series during the first Monday of every month. So if you miss one, you can always make it up.

Held at the fabulous Marriott Airport Hotel, in Nashville, Tennessee, the USA Jack & Jill Swing Dance Championships features hundreds of dancers from all across America competing in 8 levels of Jack & Jill as well as 5 levels of Strictly Swing.

Join us at Alabama Youth Ballet's Winter Open House for a FREE Swing class and demonstration. Learn the history and basic steps of Lindy Swing in this fun FREE session! No partner required!!!

As part of the Alabama Youth Ballet Winter Open House, we will also be offering free classes in Pilates, Yoga for Kids and more, plus performances from our Ballet, Modern and Children's Dance Companies.

Join us for a memorial charity dance to celebrate the life of Randy Jones, who died on November 4, 2010 of Acute Myelogenous Leukemia, AML.
Randy was a frequent dancer at local Cajun/Zydeco and Swing dances in Huntsville and surrounding areas. He was famous for wearing blue attire. So wear something blue and come dance in memory of Randy.

Other Info: Free triple step Swing dance lesson at 7:30. Attire is dressy casual. The DJ will be Hal Beach playing an eclectic variety of music including Cajun Waltzes, Swing, Zydeco, West Coast Swing, Shag and Ballroom.
