Thank you to everyone who came out to the New Years Eve Bash. It was an incredible event! We had more people at the lesson than would fit on the dance floor. Gabriel and Tabitha taught an excellent lesson and Rocket City Jazz Orchestra followed it up with four fantastic sets. I think I speak for Huntsville's swing dance community when I say that RCJO has made Huntsville a better place both to dance and just to enjoy the arts!

A fanTAStic group of 15-20 instrumental jazz musicians, the Rocket City Jazz Orchestra will be performing LIVE in the UAH University Center Exhibit Hall next Friday. Whether you like to dance, or just like listening to great jazz music - you will LOVE this band! This is a great way to lead into the Huntsville Swing Dance Society Grass Roots Rhythm workshop so come out and have a good time!

Oh man, what a weekend! I've been to Lindy Exchanges that didn't have the selection and quality of music, dance, and camaraderie we had this weekend! The expanded dance floor at the Monkey has elevated it to the premier location in Huntsville for social dancing. Miss Tess and the Bon Ton Parade and Christabel and the Jons were incredible! We had so many good dancers, both young and old, Huntsville, and out-of-towners.

HSDS is excited to be hosting the Rocket City Jazz Orchestra again at the Flying Monkey! The Rocket City Jazz Orchestra has become North Alabama's most active and sought after jazz and swing big band. This 19-piece band, based in Huntsville, Alabama, delivers exciting big band jazz, swing, and pop music throughout North Alabama and southern Middle Tennessee. Classics from Glenn Miller and Count Basie reside in the band's library along with big band arrangements of tunes from modern performers such as Earth, Wind, and Fire, Brian Setzer and Phil Collins. This eclectic repertoire ensures performances that appeal to audiences of all ages and of all tastes.

Also, a free (included with the price of the dance) beginners swing dance lesson will be offered from 7-8pm. For those new to swing dancing, this will be a perfect opportunity to learn the essentials to lead/follow a partnered swing dance.

For those who want more than just a beginner lesson, we will be doing the Kickin' It (Really) Old School Workshop Saturday from 10:30 to 4:30 at Southern Elegance Dance Studio! We will be covering Peabody (a mix between ballroom and swing) and collegiate shag (another fast-past and exciting swing variation).
