Zero to Swing Wrap up

Thanks everybody for a wildly successful weekend! We had a great turn out for the workshop and all of the dances!

Thank you to everyone that came out to the carousel at Bridge Street to dance Friday night! The weather looked pretty worrisome, however it broke at the last minute and we had a cool, clear night to dance. There were a ton of people that came out and danced under the lights. Thanks to Paul and Huy for DJ'ing!

Plan for Friday Night @ Bridge Street

Here's the plan: Meet @ the carousel @ 7:30. If it's not raining, we'll dance, otherwise we'll socialize at The Zone (across the way).

Update: Dance is going well. The weather is cooperating and turning out very nicely.

Zero to Swing Lesson Descriptions

Saturday Beginner Lesson: Beginning Lindy Hop
Lindy Hop is a dance based on a fantastic single move: the swingout. This class is designed to get you swinging out comfortably as soon as possible! Breanna and Huy will teach you all you need to know about triple steps, the swingout pattern, leading and following, and even a few simple moves to throw into your dance. This is where the fun all starts!

Saturday Moves Lesson: Fun and Fancy

Zero to Swing Registration

We've set up some great options for registration:

  • Beginner Pass: $30
    • The Beginner Pass comes with two 2-hour beginner lessons, Lindy Hop on Saturday, and Charleston on Sunday. These classes will be designed to get a person with no swing experience comfortable enough to dance through a song in either type of swing.
  • Intermediate Pass: $30
    • The Intermediate Pass includes the last two classes of each day, a moves and teachers choice class each in Lindy Hop and Charleston. These classes will help intermediate dancers add some spice to their dance and help them find new tricks
  • Saturday 1-Day Pass: $30
    • The Saturday pass provides the two hour Lindy Hop basic class, plus the moves and teacher's choice classes. This is for anyone wanting to focus on Lindy Hop.
  • Sunday 1-Day Pass: $30
    • The Sunday pass provides the two hour Charleston basic class, plus the moves and teacher's choice classes. This is for anyone wanting to focus on Charleston.
  • Full Workshop Pass: $50

Zero to Swing Teacher Bios

Breanna Perry

Breanna loves pretty much everything about pretty much every vintage jazz/vernacular folk/really old/swing-era dance there is, ever. Goofy animal dances? She loves 'em. Swingin' out hard and fast? Just try and stop her. Messing around with chuggy charleston patterns? She can't get enough. Melty and stretchy blues dances, long-legged peabody, fancy-footed balboa, she enjoys all of it. And one of her favorite things is when she gets the chance to share all of those favorite things with other people! In classes, she's known to focus on technique in a nerdy way, such as comparing dancers' arms to triangles' hypotenuses or trying to air-graph movement intensities. Breanna's absolute favorite, though, is when everyone just gets together to thrown down and have fun!
