January Wrap Up

Man you guys are good! We figured we'd plan a nice, simple, quiet dance and you turned it into a thing. It didn't hurt that Marshal killed it laying down an awesome set. Big thanks to him for coming down, making the music happen, and not holding the service at the Steak and Shake against us.

But really, thanks to YOU. Normally we expect DJ dances to be a bit slower. This one wasn't! We had close to a hundred people there. We also had multiple other scenes represent including Nashville, Knoxville, Cookeville, Birmingham and that one guy from Austin who always comes. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better dance.

And remember, our next dance is coming up FAST! (Feb 4th) It's a Sadie Hawkins Dance so it's the girl's job to ask the guys out onto the floor!

----

And there's more that's happened in January other than the dance. For starters, we now have new bylaws. Big thanks to Amber, Briana, and the rest of the HSDS board for making them happen.

January 5th, 2012, the HSDS Board Executive Officers signed new bylaws, (the first time since 2004 we believe). They are attached below. They can also be found HERE.

Huntsville Swing Dance Society events happen because multiple people spend many hours for each and every one. Someone books the venue. Someone books the band. Someone posts and maintains the website, facebook group, and the newsletter. Someone picks a theme and themes the dance. Multiple people promote the events including recording radio spots and contacting newspapers. Someone sets up the venue. Someone teaches the lesson. Someone DJs the event or the breaks. Someone works the door. Someone runs odd errands. Someone breaks down after the dance.

Regional Meet-Up with Christabel and the Jons Wrapup

What a Dance! We PACKED the monkey! We had people that had danced for years and people who were just starting! We had High School students and college students. We had young professionals and retirees. We had the Huntsville crowd as well as people from Nashville, Birmingham, Memphis, Knoxville, Atlanta, and Auburn! The only problem the whole night was finding space on the dance floor!

Will You Dance with Me? HSDS presents Tuxedo Junction Featuring Rick Jobe, Chip Gulbro and lovely Leilani for a Sadie Hawkins Dance

Thats right, Now the gentlemen get to sit down and wait to be asked onto the dance floor! Follows, this'll be your one chance this year to make sure you get the dances YOU want so plan on coming out.

HSDS Regional Swing Meet-Up with Christabel and the Jons this Friday

UPDATE 3: Since we have so many out-of-town people coming, we're going to answer calls at the phone number (256-369-9543) in case anyone has questions. (Normally we simply respond to voice mails.) For the weekend you'll also be able to send texts to that number and have them answered.

UPDATE 2: As of about 7 last night, the address is working.

HSDS Posts 1000'th Piece of Content

Posted in

So, the website has finally reached 1000 pieces of content posted. We've been running on the same database since February 2009 (after the website experienced a hardware failure). The website went from running on direct hardware, to a virtual machine, to now running in the Amazon.com EC2 cloud.

The 1000'th piece of content is the Dance Placeholder for August 2012. The first piece of content is Me apologizing for the website crashing.
