Jump, Jive & Swing

Jump, Jive & Swing! is Nashville's original evening of Big Band Swing, sponsored by The Nashville 20/30 Christian Swing Dance Group and proceeds benefit Youth for Truth, a ministry & mentor program for at-risk urban young people. Dances are usually twice monthly, with lessons included. For more info, call Steve Willis 294-4858, or email swwillis@bellsouth.net.

There will normally be one or two lessons from 7 to 8:30 followed by dancing until 11.

Repeats every month on January, February, March, April, May, September, October, November, December on the first Saturday and on the third Saturday until Fri May 31 2013 .

HSDS September Dance

We've got the Funky Pirates Jazz Band for September. These guys are awesome! The best clanky new orleans jazz since the Loose Marbles. Unless you're going to New Orleans to see Meschiya Lakes or such, you'll want to hear this!

Megan Adair will be teaching Cardio Charleston in Nashville. This is your chance to work on your dance and your body at the same time! Work up a sweat and kick it up!

UAH Fall Dance

Fall is finally here to send Summer on its way! Come out and usher in the cooler weather with some cool, fun dancing! Enjoy all of the Jazz, Blues, Old-School Swing, Soul, and other great music while we all dance the night away...

A beginner lesson will be held before the dance, covering The Shim Sham! Come for the dance and you get the lesson as well!

HSDS Represents at Jubilee Jazz!

Congratulations to all the HSDS dancers who competed at Jubilee Jazz. I don't think Huntsville has ever competed so much in a swing event. Tabitha Bassett, Gabriel Bassett, Huy Huynh, Briana Austin McIntire, Paul Fryer, and Rob Murphy all competed. Huy placed in everything he entered (well, finals in invitational J&J), Tabitha took first in Open J&J with Paul taking third, and Huy and Briana took first in the blues comp. What an incredible showing and hopefully a preview of whats to come in HSDS competing!

Dean Martinis at Jump Jive and Swing this Saturday

Just a note that the Dean Martinis are playing Jump Jive and Swing this Saturday. There's a lot going on that day, (KLX, Jubilee Jazz, and Rocket City Jazz Orchestra presented by HSDS), but if you're up in Nashville and not at one of the other events, I encourage you to check them out.

Weekly Shag

we are shifting our dance to the Eagles on Monday nights, 6-8 pm, longer if everyone is still dancing. The format will remain the same: One hour of shag instruction (basic plus intermediate/advanced) followed by open dancing to some great shag music.

The Eagles is located at 2500 10th Street, (Just Off Bob Wallace), Huntsville, Alabama, Phone: 256-533-6089.

Someone will be at the door to let you in until 6:10 or so, after that, press the buzzer and you'll be allowed access. The Dart Room is down the hallway to the right of the bar, turn right, first room on left.
