In 2010, we decided it was high time for Charlotte to host our very own Lindy exchange. Our inaugural event was in 2010, followed by a one-year hiatus while Stephanie finished her Masters degree. (Thanks, Charlotte Cheap Thrills Dance Weekend organizers, for bridging the gap in 2011!) But we’re back and ready to kick QCLX into high gear with our 2012 theme: Star Wars!

Join us on March 9 – 11, 2012 for QCLX 2012: The Queen City Strikes Back!

What's Charlotte Cheap Thrills Weekend?

We thought we would throw a party this year and make it last all weekend long. Why? Charlotte loves to Lindy - isn't that reason enough??! And since Blues is becoming ever more popular we are throwing a solid mix of tunes for all to enjoy. Don't worry if you aren't familiar with blues dancing - we have a beginner lesson on Friday and lots of folks who will help you with your groove.

The Charlotte swing dancing scene has been growing over the last few years, so it was high time we hosted our very own Lindy exchange, and this year marks our first year! QCLX is a Charlotte swing dance community event and is hosted this year by Lovin' Lindy.

Why Queen City Lindy Exchange?
Charlotte was named for Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III of England, when the city was founded in 1769, and is thus known as "The Queen City."

Why "Strike It Rich"?

Cool Cat Corner

It was called the Cool Cat Corner, the northeast corner of the legendary Savoy Ballroom in NYC, and it is where creativity and personal expression ruled. This is where Frankie Manning and Shorty George and their friends congregated; where Herbert "Whitey" White drafted the members of Whitey's Lindy Hoppers; and where impromptu exhibitions and competitions called "jams" took place so great dancers could shine surrounded by a circle of admirers.
