For those who don't know Megan, she has been teaching swing for longer than many of the huntsville dancers have been dancing. She's an excellent blues dancer, particularly in her Jukin and Ballroom/Struttin blues. And she can move her hips like no-one's business!
A Great American Festival Comes to America’s “Music City”
One of the most prestigious and longest-running celebrations of the arts, the National Folk Festival, is coming to Nashville for a three-year tenure beginning in September of 2011. The National Council for the Traditional Arts (NCTA), the organization that created and has produced the National Folk Festival since 1934, recognized Nashville’s unique cultural assets and strong community spirit in choosing Nashville as the National Folk Festival Host City for 2011, 2012 and 2013, the festival’s 75th anniversary year.

Friday, 9/2/11 7:30-11 $7.00 admission, nonsmoking venue with a large and new dance floor - very nice, beverages and food are available for purchase and are inexpensive. The dance hall entrance is in the back of the Big A convenience store building, there is plenty of parking behind the building.
The Athens, Georgia swing dance community will be hosting our first workshop and dance weekend event, Classic City Swing: The Balboa Edition, on September 23 and 24, 2011. The weekend will feature 6 hours of workshops and 9 hours of dancing with 2 live bands (Blair Crimmins & the Hookers and The Shadow Executives) and 4 DJs - all for $20 if you register and pay by August 1! After August 1, the price is still only $30 - a steal for a weekend event!
Now that the school year is back in session, classes are moving to Tuesday and back to the University Fitness Center. This way we can do not just a beginner class, but an intermediate as well! Huy and Tabitha will be bringing new and beginner dancers in to the fold while also teaching new moves and advanced concepts. The beginner class starts at 6:30 and the intermediate at 7:30.

Just an update on the Intermediate Skill Share the HSDS Core Members do every Wednesday. It's going very well. The group that performed the Tranky Doo at bridge street has been learning it at the skill share (along with another 4 or 5 people who weren't available to perform). We've also been working on a bunch of other things such as footwork, speed exercises, sharing moves, watching ourselves dance, etc. We're also getting in a lot of simple dance time.
And as always it's FREE!!! And as always it's AWESOME! Join us in the main market house for some awesome dancing to local DJs from 1-4. You'll be sure to get some great dances, great local food, and meet some great people. Really, why wouldn't you go??
