Saturday Night Red Hot Valentine Dinner & Dance with the Boilermakers Jazz & Swing Band!! (Dinner/Dance if not attending workshop, $25). Boilermakers from 8 -11, dj dance until midnight.

WHAT IS BALBOA??? Balboa is the most elegant of the swing dances,
as well as the hottest "new" dance craze that swing dancers are now
re-discovering. Developed in L.A. back in the early 1930's, Balboa is a regional dance that has gone global! Balboa is a fantastically adaptable dance known for smooth style and quick footwork, and can be danced to slow, medium, or blazing fast music!

On June 26, Corey Manke and Reuel Reis will the panelists of a DJ summit held at Corey's home. This provides an opportunity to talk about issues with DJing and hone your skills. Both beginning and experienced DJs are encouraged to attend.

2:00-3:30
Presentation by the panelists on DJ topics and Q&A from the audience. Novices and advanced DJs welcome.

3:30-5:00
DJ Summit Masters Class: This will be a personalized review of everyone's DJ material by the panelists. Novices from the first hour are free to stick around but are not required to submit music.

Balboa, the ever feared and respected swing dance. Even among swing dances, balboa is a separate peak to be conquered. However, with the right help, you can go from 0 to 60 in no time flat. Thats what this workshop is all about, giving those with no experience a chance to get cruisin and those with some balboa experience a chance to turn it into a solid part of their swing repertoire.

Class 1 – The Good Stuff: Getting comfortable with the feel and basic steps of the balboa

Class 2 – The Better Stuff: Adding some pure balboa moves to your basic

Class 3 – The Great Stuff: Moves to make you look great on the dance floor

Class 4 – The Best Stuff: Teaching a classic “old timer” balboa move for some major eye candy on the floor that combines a little bit of everything learned so far and more.

We're in luck! Hearing of our plight, Rick Jobe and Tuxedo Junction of have agreed to serenade you tonight! We'll save the DJ's for another day because the band is back! (It may not be the same band, but we know how you love live music!)

UPDATE 2:
All of our love and prayers go out to Christa in the hopes that she recovers soon. In the mean time, we've gotten some great DJs to fill in! Huy Huynh has graciously offered as well as the ever lovely Danielle B!

And, in a wonderful surprise, Corey Manke, down here teaching the balboa workshop, has agreed to DJ as well! This will be the best chance you'll get to practice that balboa!

While nothing is quite like Christabel and the Jons, we're definitely lucky with the quality of the DJ'ing. And as with all DJ dances, the prices go down! It'll only be $7 for general admission and $5 for students!

Hi y'all. I'm very sorry that I have to cancel our performance tonight at the Flying Monkey due to the fact that I've completely lost my voice. What started as a sinus infection has turned into full-blown laryngitis. The dance will still go on with a DJ, so come and dance and swing out and have a grand old time.

Our next show in Huntsville will be our big Christmas show at the Flying Monkey on December 16. It's all Christmas music, staged like "Prairie Home Companion" or an old-time television holiday special. We're bringing 3 actors from Knoxville with us to add to the fun. We'll also have our new CD with us, "The Christmas Album."

Again I'm very sorry, have a fun Saturday night and I hope we see you next month at the Christmas show.

As always, there will be a beginner lesson before the dance at 7 so come out, learn how to dance, and put it to use!

NSDF's April Classes will run from 8-9pm, Tuesdays, April 7, 14, 21 & 28 at Dance in Bloom Studio in Bellevue and will feature:

"Cool Moves and Other Fun Stuff for the Continuing Lindy Hopper" - This class will be taught by Beth and Yossef will be for students with some basic lindy hop experience.

"Lindy Basics" - This class will be taught by Corey and Susan and will be for students with little or no lindy hop experience or for those who want to refresh their basics.

Huntsville has never really had a good, in-depth balboa lesson. We're about to change that. And we're going to do it BIG. We're going to have a balboa workshop with two days of moves taught by Corey and Susan from Nashville. This workshop is geared at people with basic swing knowledge but no balboa knowledge. At the end, you'll be dancing balboa on its own and making it an intrinsical part of your lindy.

Balboa is a form of swing danced to fast music. It utilizes small steps to make dancing to faster music possible. You can interweave lindy with balboa the same as Charleston.
