What: HSDS February Dance with the Dean Martinis

The Dean Martinis are coming back again this February to light up the Monkey! The Dean Martinis are a great swing band from Nashville and regulars for Huntsville. They've played for us before and even played a thank-you concert for Huntsville last fall!

What: I Bal Therefore I Am ... (HSDS Balboa Workshop)
When: Mar 13, 1pm - 6:30pm
Where: The Elk's Lodge, 725 Franklin St SE, Huntsville, AL
Cost: $25
Balboa, the ever feared and respected swing dance. Even among swing dances, balboa is a separate peak to be conquered. However, with the right help, you can go from 0 to 60 in no time flat. Thats what this workshop is all about, giving those with no experience a chance to get cruisin and those with some balboa experience a chance to turn it into a solid part of their swing repertoire. This might be your one chance of the year to kick up your balboa a notch (or just get it started) so don't miss it!

What: HSDS Swing Dance Lessons with Gabe and Tabitha
When: Every Tuesday, Beginner 6:50-7:50, Beginner/Intermediate 8-9pm

The March Beginner swing class will be lindy hop. Whether you're starting from scratch, trying to solidify what you learned with Jason and Danielle, or simply trying to make your fundamentals crisp and clean, this is the class for you. Tabitha and Gabriel will be covering all the fundamentals as well as the lindy physics that underpins it.
The March Beginner/Intermediate class will cover musicality. We know you know the moves, now learn how to use them. This class will focus on hearing what their is to dance to in the music and learning how to use it. Learn what to listen for in the music, (breaks, melody/harmony, phrasing, both slow and fast). The class will follow in part on the critique class of February and will focus more on giving students a certain concept to practice rather than just moves.

We have something very special this spring. Jason and Danielle Knight are bringing a regional event (previously held in Knoxville, TN) to Huntsville! That Rhythm Thing brings in national instructors Peter Strom and Naomi Uyama to teach and will bring dancers from all over the eastern US to learn, practice, and swing.
