What: HSDS February Dance with the Dean Martinis
When: Feb 27, 8pm-11pm (beginner lesson @ 7)
Where: Flying Monkey Arts Center, 2211 Seminole Drive, Huntsville, AL
Cost: $10 General, $7 Student
The Dean Martinis are coming back again this February to light up the Monkey! The Dean Martinis are a great swing band from Nashville and regulars for Huntsville. They've played for us before and even played a thank-you concert for Huntsville last fall!

What: HSDS Swing Dance Lessons with Gabe and Tabitha
When: Every Tuesday, Beginner 6:50-7:50, Intermediate 8-9pm
Where: UAH Fitness Center, Huntsville, AL
Cost: Students/members: Free, Day Pass: $10
Tuesdays in February, Tabitha and Gabriel will be starting up the next set of swing dance lessons at the UAH Fitness Center. From 6:50-7:50, they'll be teaching beginning 6-count lindy. For those just starting to learn to dance, this is just what you need to get into it. For those who are experienced dancers, this is your chance to not worry about the moves and work on your fundamentals.

The intermediate class will be a critique class. You will spend most of your time dancing. In between dances, Tabitha and Gabriel will give individual people recommendations. The goal will be to give each person 1 thing to work on per class.

All critiques will be shared with the entire class so everyone can learn from them.
This is similar to a master's class where individual couples receive tailored feedback. We may not be able to get to everyone and the feedback will be shorter than a masters class, but it should be a good introduction to that kind of more advanced lesson.

We have something very special this spring. Jason and Danielle Knight are bringing a regional event (previously held in Knoxville, TN) to Huntsville! That Rhythm Thing brings in national instructors Peter Strom and Naomi Uyama to teach and will bring dancers from all over the eastern US to learn, practice, and swing. You can register at the website and get the much cheaper $60 for a limited time so I suggest registering ASAP. We are extremely privileged to have this regional event hosted in Huntsville so I wanted to make sure to get it on everyone's calendars NOW!

Cost: $13 general, $11 members
The Birmingham Swing Dancers invite you to a swing dance on Friday, February 26 at the Fultondale Friendship Hall, 1024 Old Walker Chapel Road, Fultondale from 8:00 – 11:00 pm. Music by Patton James & the Synchromatics, a modern jump blues, rocking swing band from Nashville, Tennessee. From the melancholy sounds reminiscent of a YOUNG SINATRA to the high energy ROCKIN' JUMP BLUES of the 1940's, this band has it all. Admission is $11 for BSD members, $13 for non-members. Casual attire. Light snacks, soft drinks, water and ice are furnished. No alcohol or smoking allowed.

First Friday Blues, Nashville's monthly blues dance venue put on by Reuel Reis, resumes its dances in 2010. Come out and join us for a good time!

If there are less than 6 people present for the intro lesson, the lesson may be cancelled. So come out and bring your friends!
