We had another great HSDS dance, this time headed by Jim Wheatley from Atlanta. It was great to hear swing music from the original records that made the music popular. And if you left before the last set, you missed out! Jim moved on to his unique soul collection, laying down a set that kept the dance floor moving till the end!
Thank you to everyone who came out. We had great turn out! Normally DJ dances are a little bit slower but this one had about double the attendees we'd normally have at a DJ event. And it was ALL dancers! There was never a seating problem because everyone was up and on the floor the whole night long.
Big thanks also to John Coogan who focaled the event. This was his first time and he did an excellent job. Also thanks to Michael who threw the after party which I hear went until sun-up. And we couldn't forget Tabitha and Paul teaching the beginner lesson. They did a great job and we expect to see them teaching together a lot in the future. And thanks to all the other volunteers who made setting up, running the table, and cleaning up at the end possible!
It was a great night and everyone had a ton of fun, so much so that we had to move Jim's decks to keep all the dancers from bouncing the floor so much the records skipped. We'll get that fixed (we've got a town full of engineers if you haven't noticed) and get Jim back, maybe for a full night of soul.
In the mean time, don't forget the next dance. We've got Christabel and the Jons coming down for a hot mess in July! It's going to be a hot, crazy dance so make sure to bring extra t-shirts!
