Moondust Big Band Dance Wrap Up

Printer-friendly version

WOW. We knew the dance was going to be good, but NO-ONE expect this! it was HUGE! We had as many people as we had at the Regional Meetup with Christabel and the Jons last December! (Speaking of which, she's coming back In July. Just sayin.) And yet the dance floor wasn't horribly crowded. We had a good number of people listening and we made good use of the right side of the floor for dancers meaning there was room for everyone who wanted to dance.

A big hand goes to Moondust who played a solid performance. They were cramped up on the stage, but they made it work and knocked out some beautiful music! How can you go wrong with Chris at the mic? And also a big hand to new DJ (and our newest board member) John Coogan. John has recently joined as the HSDS Setup Focal. This was his first time DJing and he didn't disappoint.

Neither did Huy and Tabitha who put together a special lesson, just for this dance. They taught a ballroomin swing class in the form of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers. It's certainly a unique thing which many swing dancers pick up but is rarely taught. Special thanks goes to them for putting in the extra work for a special lesson.

It was probably Danielle who put in the most extra work though! She got there early and worked hard (with the help of John and some of her volunteers & board members to set up the dance! It takes a lot of effort to get the tables, chairs, and all the extra decorations in place! Danielle also kept us legit by watching the fire exit. With so many people, its easy to forget that there are some places chairs just can't be. Danielle takes care of us by making sure the path to the emergency exit stays clear, something we'll all appreciate if the worst happens.

Again, thank you to Moondust Big Band, the Flying Monkey (and Dustin who does our sounds and Anna Sue who watches over us in particular), the HSDS Board members, and volunteers who all put in a ton of work to make a huge, amazing, wonderful dance! We'll see you at Bridge Street with Brotha Ric this weekend and at
"The Vinyl Experience" with Jim Wheatley in June!
